If you’re not a basketball fan, playing it at home can be a fun way to pass the time and to exercise while having fun! This is why your home is incomplete without the best in-ground basketball hoop.

Basketball is a great family or solo activity, but before you go out and buy a hoop, you should do your research to figure out which is suits your needs.

Lucky for you, we’ve reviewed the best in-ground basketball hoops in this post based on real user reviews so that you can make a smart buy decision.

There are various hoops on the market that claim to remain sturdy over time, but you won’t know until you buy it. Therefore, research is important to select an in-ground basketball hoop that will last.

Before you grab a random hoop to bring home to your family, first, you should know that there are three types of basketball hoops: in-ground, portable, and wall mounted.

If you want to get more for your money, then an in-ground basketball hoop is the way to go.

In-ground basketball hoops take up less room than portable ones. These hoops can withstand more dunks than a portable hoop since they are secured more strongly.

Also unlike portable basketball hoops, in-ground hoops won’t move every time a ball hits or get knocked over from strong winds. Meanwhile, with wall mount hoops, you have to worry about the wall getting damaged.

This is why depending on what you’re looking for, an in-ground hoop might suit you more than these other options.

What’s nice about portable hoops is that you can bring them with you if you move, while wall-mounted hoops don’t have a footprint and thus save some space.

There are some in-ground basketball hoops that have anchor systems, which allow you to move them with you, so there is some flexibility there.

Also, in-ground hoops have more features than portables and wall mounts in terms of their construction and materials used, these are your standard basketball hoop.

If in-ground seems like the right type of home basketball hoop for you, then read through this list to see what the top-rated options are!

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions that we came across while putting together this review:

Our pick for the best in ground basketball system is the Goalrilla FT Series. There’s a long list of reasons why we proclaimed Goalrilla FT Series as the best in ground basketball system, for instance, it comes with a 72” W x 42” H clear-view backboard made of tempered glass that provides a professional-like look and rebound.

Another plus point with this in ground basketball hoop is that the height is adjustable; the height can go from 7.5 feet to 10 feet and can easily be adjustable by simply twisting a nob.

The overhang is 4 feet; ideal for the best balance of safety and performance. Rim; Heavyweight, flex—the rim is sturdy as heck, you can hang on it as much as you want without any concerns.

Professionally installing an in ground basketball usually costs something between $500-$600 and if you want to do it yourself, it shouldn’t be that although you would need tools and specialized equipment; digging a large enough hole in the ground for the basketball hoop post is easier said than done.

Here are the steps to installing an in ground basketball pole:

Step 1: Firstly you’d have to pick a location, be sure to pick a spot that you like, and if you’re installing the hoop in a public space, make sure to check with the neighborhood ordinances or homeowner’s association rules.

Step 2: Once you’ve picked a spot, you’ll have to dig a hole. You can contact the manufacturer to learn how big the hole should be for your particular model. You can use a shovel but if you can get your hands on an auger, that would make things a lot easier for you.

Step 3: Once the hole is dug then comes the time to pour concrete. If you have a single-post model, you can get someone to hold the post straight, from there you can pour concrete around it to secure the post. Although, more often than not, it’s a rebar-mounted anchor that you’ll have to set into the concrete.

Step 4: From there you can raise the pole and if your basketball system doesn’t include a mounting anchor, you can skip ahead to the backboard. When it comes to installing the pole, each unit is different so make sure to read the instructions specific to your model.

Step 5: After the pole is secured—after around 2-3 hours—you can move on to install the backboard. It’s important to remember that the pole is generally quite heavy, so you’d need some muscle (yes, more than one person) to get that installed.

Step 6: At this point, you can go ahead and install the rim and the net. The rim will simply get bolted on unless you have a breakaway rim— in that case, there may be a bit more assembly.

Depending on the size, it can take somewhere from 1 to 3 days for a basketball installation to complete but most regular-size hoops take about 1 day before you can start shooting at it.
